Last week's poll on favorite study spots drew 129 participants, casting a total of 312 votes. The Library emerged as the top choice, capturing 41.88% of the votes, followed by "My Place" with 30.19%.The Centennial Student Union (CSU) received 7.14% of the votes.

CSU BLOG EARNS GLOBAL RECOGNITION FOR STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

The Centennial Student Union Blog was listed second globally among the best Student Union RSS Feed sites as compiled by Feedspot in its 2024 listing released Sept. 14. Feedspot’s best Student Union rss feed list is curated from thousands of rss feeds on the web and ranked by relevance, authority, social media followers & freshness. In releasing its 2024 list, Feedspot credited the CSU Blog for news that “focuses on academic success, alumni spotlight, assistance, campus news, events, fraternity and sorority and more.” The CSU Blog placed second behind the Student Union of the University of Vaasa in Finland.

400% GROWTH IN STUDENT EVENTS TEAM’S REACH
|
Lexi Pedersen, a Public Relations major at Minnesota State Mankato, has been recognized for her exceptional leadership as the Social Media and Marketing Chair of the Student Events Team. Under her guidance, the group saw a remarkable 400% surge in social media reach, transforming their online presence. Her innovative strategies, including showcasing personal moments of members, have highlighted the team's vibrant community spirit.

NEW MAVERICK SHUTTLE IS FIRST EV BUS ON CAMPUS
|
Campus bus service gets an EV presence with the addition of the new all-electric Maverick Shuttle to the fleet. Funded by 80 percent contribution from the Federal Carbon Reduction Program Act, the $95,000, 12-passenger shuttle now provides on-campus stops for customers used to the older Maverick Daytime Shuttle. Joining shuttle bus driver Taylor Flanagan is Student Government President Roshit Niraula (seated, front center) and members of the Student Senate.

YOUR BRAIN ON PORN ILLITERACY

SEPT. 24 NOON ZOOM TACKLES PORN'S MORAL DILEMMA
|
When it comes to porn, separating scientific research from moral panic may require a good sense of balance. Such is the capability of Dr. Eric Sprankle, professor of clinical psychology and co-director of the sexuality studies program at Minnesota State University. Dr. Sprankle, author of The Wonderfully Weird History and Science of Masturbation, presents a noon Zoom lecture, "Your Brain on Porn Illiteracy: Understanding Porn Research, Misinformation, and Moral Panic," on Tuesday, Sept. 24. His presentation will offer a unique perspective when considering whether pornography can be a healthy medium to consume. Sprankle's lecture is part of a fall semester series of presentations and workshops offered through the Center for Excellence in Scholarship and Research.

NEW MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC TO OPEN IN MANKATO
|
BLUE CROSS FUNDS $5M FOR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
|
Minnesota State University, Mankato, in partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, has announced the opening of a new Rural Behavioral Health Clinic later this year. Supported by a $5 million pledge from Blue Cross, the clinic will offer critical mental health services to rural communities in southern Minnesota. Located at 1600 Warren St. in Mankato, the clinic will provide in-person counseling, case management, and medication services, with future plans for substance use disorder counseling and virtual care.

Minnesota State University, Mankato recently introduced logo-embossed sugar cookies, a branding twist conceived by Elyse Anderson and developed in collaboration with various departments. Using a 3D printer, Brian Anderson from IT Solutions created molds, and bakery supervisor Becky Fredericks baked over 500 cookies for the Aug. 19 Convocation. You can now watch the remainder of MSU Mavericks 2024 home football games starting Saturday, Sept. 21, following a partnership announced this week between KEYC News Now and Minnesota State Mankato. The games will be broadcast on The365, which is available over the air on channel 7-3. The365 is also available on select cable providers, including Charter Spectrum on channel 193 or 3271, Mediacom Channel 140, Comcast cable channel 228 and Midco cable channel 595. WITNESS THE ULTIMATE LIP SYNC BATTLE

The Homecoming Lip Sync and Coronation, will take place on Oct. 4, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Bresnan Arena. Watch as teams compete in an exciting lip sync battle, and cheer on the crowning of this year’s Homecoming Royalty. The evening will also feature the announcement of the #SittinWithStomper photo contest winners and a performance by the MNSU Dance Team.

ENJOY A 25-FOOT BONFIRE AND FIREWORKS

Bonfire & Fireworks will take place on Friday, Oct. 4, from 9 p.m to 10 p.m. at Blakeslee Stadium. The event features a 25-foot bonfire, a DJ, and a 15-minute fireworks show. Enjoy free activities and food samples, with parking available in Lot 20.
